I’m not sure if you’ve been following the news about the Tufts/BCBS insurance issues.
There’s a good overview on boston.com about Tuft’s notice to stop accepting BCBS insurance after January 31st if BCBS doesn’t update its payment scale for Tufts.
Here’s the link to the article on Boston.com http://budurl.com/TuftsBCBS
As you know, I have been a long time patient at Tufts Medical Center and feel that Tufts offers some of the best care in the country. I can say this whole-heartedly because I’ve been to some of the top hospitals in the US over the course of 17 years of cancer survivorship. To read about issues like this is upsetting at the very least.
On January 14th last year, I had major surgery at Tufts – I would have been devastated if potential insurance changes were hanging over my head as I was going through treatment and recovery.
Insurance and health care are such delicate and emotionally charged issues. To have additional concerns like these presented to people in active care or that have developed strong relationships with doctors is extremely tough to handle. Changes like these bring undue stress to all.
I know there are people in Massachusetts that are very concerned about these potential changes. If the Tufts/BCBS issue might affect you, I encourage you to review the website established by Tufts that outlines what you can do: http://budurl.com/keepmydoc
Whether you are affected by this change or not, please consider passing this information along to your friends and family. Someday, the elusive “Health Care Reform” will arrive, overhauling the whole system, but until then, it’s up to all of us to look out for each other.
All the best for a wonderful, happy, and healthy 2009.
Wow! I had no idea about this! I just wrote about it on my blog. What can we do to put pressure on Blue Cross right now?
